Meat Loaf – I’d Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)

Posted in Lyrics, Music Video, Song Comment tagged at 2:36 pm by LynxLee

This song has been around for so long.. the last post is the latest song from him, but as usual, save the best for last(of the day). I always wondered, how is it that this song wasn’t in the soundtrack of Beauty & The Beast? Haha.. perhaps the future version? With Real Acting? That’d be real cool. It’s also based on Phantom of the Opera.
Still, the video alone is already amazing. Really great acting, great atmosphere & feel to it. In case any of you were wondering what is “that” that he won’t do, do visit this. Explains everything about the song. In my opinion, this is the best song from Meatloaf by far!

“And I would do anything for love
I’d run right into hell and back
I would do anything for love
I’d never lie to you and that’s a fact”

“Maybe I’m lonely, that’s all I’m qualified to be”

“I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that”

And I would do anything for love
I’d run right into hell and back
I would do anything for love
I’d never lie to you and that’s a fact
But I’ll never forget the way you feel right now,
Oh no, no way
And I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that

Anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love
I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that

Some days it don’t come easy
Some days it don’t come hard
Some days it don’t come at all, and these are the days that never end
Some nights you’re breathing fire
Some nights you’re carved in ice
Some nights you’re like nothing I’ve ever seen before or will again

Maybe I’m crazy, but it’s crazy and it’s true
I know you can save me, no-one else can save me now but you

As long as the planets are turning
As long as the stars are burning
As long dreams are coming true
You’d better believe it, that I would do

Anything for love
And I’l be there until the final act
I would do anything for love, and I’ll take a vow and seal a pact
But I’ll never forgive myself if we don’t go all the way, tonight
I would do anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that

I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that

Some days I pray for silence
Some days I pray for soul
Some days I just pray to the god of sex and drums and rock ‘n’ roll

Maybe I’m lonely, that’s all I’m qualified to be
That’s just one and only, the one and only promise I can keep

As long as the wheels are turning
As long as the fires are burning
As long as your prayers are coming true
You’d better believe it, that I would do

Anything for love
And you know it’s true and that’s a fact
I would do anything for love, and there’ll never be no turning back
But I’ll never do it better than I do it with you. So long, so long
I would do anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that
No, no, no, I won’t do…

I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do that
I would do anything for love
Anything you’ve been dreaming of, but I just won’t do…

But I’ll never stop dreaming of you ev’ry night of my life, no way
I would do anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love
I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that

[Girl:]
Will you raise me up? will you help me down?
Will you get me right out of this godforsaken town?
Will you make it all a little less cold?

[Boy:]
I can do that
I can do that

[Girl:]
Will you cater to every fantasy I got?
Will you hose me down with holy water, if I get too hot?
Will you take me places I’ve never known?

[Boy:]
I can do that
Oh no, I can do that

[Girl:]
After a while you’ll forget everything
It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night’s fling
And you’ll see that it’s time to move on

[Boy:]
I won’t do that
I won’t do that

[Girl:]
I know the territory, I’ve been around
It’ll all turn to dust and we’ll all fall down
Sooner or later you’ll be screwing around

[Boy:]
I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that

Anything for love
Oh, I would do anything for love
I would do anything for love, but I won’t do that
No, I won’t do that

I really can’t grasp this song’s meaning, what “that” is….

Well, did you read the link provided in my short message? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I'd_Do_Anything_for_Love_(But_I_Won't_Do_That)

Hi i just watched the video above and this version is actually quite different from the version I’ve been hearing all these years (i’m frm singapore btw). The lyrics are a little different but this version certainly is just as great! Was hoping if you can tell me whether the version above is the original one or the one which i’ve been hearing all these years….just curious. Am interested in knowing more about the background of songs i like =)

Hey klip, I have no guarantee; but if I’m not mistaken, you probably heard the sequel of “I’d Do Anything For Love”… which is https://lynxlee.wordpress.com/2006/10/30/meat-loaf-id-lie-for-you-and-thats-the-truth/. Yes, that song is the original version.. Well, according to Wikipedia.com anyway.. haha.. =)

So I’d Lie for you is the sequel to I’d do anything?? That’s pretty interesting. Never knew that, although I’ve always felt that both songs were kinda linked in some way. Well I’ve been listening to both songs on my comp for quite a while, and for both videos, the lyrics are somewhat different for both songs, as compared to the mp3s I have.

I’m not a huge meatloaf fan, but Bat outta hell III seems pretty cool, esp the duet with marion raven, doing a cover of that celine dion song.

    Anyway, thanks for sharing!

Well when i said the lyrics were somewhat different for both meatloaf songs, i was referring to 1 or 2 additional/different verses, its not a major diff or sth, but kinda interesting I thought =)

Like in the I’d lie for you video, there seems to be this additional part – where both meatloaf is outside the tent n dana patrick is making love to that indiana jones guy – the 2 verses or so that they sing aren’t in the mp3 i have….think its kinda cool when the same song can hav slight variation here n there =)

  7. LynxLee said,

Hey.. Meat Loaf is darn cool from the start ! Haha.. it’s just not “Pop”.. if you know what I mean.. haha..

  8. LynxLee said,

Yeah.. the Video & the MP3 is totally different.. most songs that has different versions with video always shows that the video is way cooler.. haha.. btw, go search http://www.wikipedia.com about Meat Loaf if you wanna know about his history and stuff.. interesting.. they even talk about the songs.. videos.. from the lyrics to the actors.. nice.. =P

  9. klip said,

Of course! To say Meatloaf is pop is an insult haha. The fact we are talking about him shows how big he is (no pun intended) =)

Was first introduced to him by my cousin when I was just like 6 or 7, first meatloaf song I heard was I’d do anything of course lol…

I still kinda prefer alt rock like the gin blossoms, but there’s no denying that meatloaf, bonnie tyler and such are in a league of their own. Bonnie tyler is one of the coolest female vocalists to me haha. Her version of straight from the heart is amazing.

  10. LynxLee said,

Haha.. sounds to me like you’re around the mid 20s.. are you? haha.. interesting to know.. =P and I’m all around from pop to rock to rap.. haha

  11. klip said,

Yeah will be there in a few yrs haha…

It’s a little amusing that a no. of the meatloaf fans here are talking about their 10-yr old kids and im still like struggling in university haha

  12. LynxLee said,

Yeah.. it’s funny how most people are saying that they are in the 30s or so and mentioning that even the young teens to 20s would enjoy it. Haha.. I’m the same as you; in a University. =P

I’ve always loved this song… and others you have here, mostly Meat Loaf. I have always placed lyrics high on my priorities of favorite music… but the music that accompanies them moves my soul. You have lots here that does both.

Thank you for your blog and, if you don’t mind, I’ll put you on my blogroll so I don’t lose track of you.

  14. LynxLee said,

I’d be honored to be in your blogroll. =P

Have been checking out Meatloaf in youtube and there’s so many of his songs i’ve not heard before, but rock!
Hot patooie, You took the words etc.
Hes really a entertaining performer, with all his stage antics.
And its really cool when he sings wif a powerful female vocalist, just makes the song so much cooler

  16. LynxLee said,

    Yeah.. Meat Loaf rocks! =P

  17. Leandra said,
